Connect the Dots

Stuck on what to do next? Answer 5 simple questions and turn your past jobs, skills, and experiences into ideas you could earn from.

Free guide, about 20 minutes

No time right now? Just do Step 1 today. That alone is a good start.

Before you start

If you've tried a bit of everything and still don't know what to do next, you're not behind. You're holding pieces that haven't been connected yet.

Set aside 20 quiet minutes. Go through each step in order. You can type your answers right on this page, or grab a notebook if you prefer writing by hand.

By the end, you'll have

  • Your skills and experiences written down in one place, many of which you've probably been overlooking
  • A clearer sense of which work gives you energy and which drains you
  • One sentence that describes what you could offer, and who might pay for it
  • One small, doable step to take this week
  • A saved copy of your answers, plus 3 free bonus AI prompts that help you keep going in ChatGPT or Claude
  1. Gather your dots

Your dots are everything you've done, learned, or lived through. Most people have more than they think. Don't filter yet. Just write.

  2. Notice your energy

Not every dot belongs in your next chapter. Look back at your list and sort it honestly.

Your next step is usually hiding in the first box.

  3. Connect them

Pick two or three dots from your energy list and see how they fit together. Try the sentence a few times with different combinations. One version will feel more like you than the rest.

Here's mine, to show you how it works

When I combine remote work, digital marketing, and figuring things out on my own, I could offer simple systems to coaches and small business owners who feel overwhelmed by too many tools.

It took me years and a few pivots to see that sentence. Yours might come faster.

    Try 1 When I combine and , I could offer to .
    Try 2 When I combine and , I could offer to .
    Try 3 When I combine and , I could offer to .
  4. Picture who you could help

The people you're best placed to help are often the ones standing where you used to stand.

  5. Take one small step

Clarity grows when you act on it. Not a big plan, just one step. Tell one person about your idea, write one post, or learn one new skill.

Your past isn't scattered. It's a set of dots waiting to be connected.

Come back to this guide whenever you feel stuck. You'll likely find new connections each time.

Your answers stay on this page and aren't sent anywhere. Save a PDF before you close the tab if you want to keep them.

On iPhone, tap the button, then the Share icon, then "Save to Files." On Android or a computer, choose "Save as PDF" as the printer.

Your answers are the start. Here's how to go further.

I wrote 3 AI prompts that turn your answers into real ideas. You upload your saved PDF to ChatGPT or Claude, paste the prompts one after another, and it works like a brainstorming partner that only uses what you wrote.

What the 3 prompts help you do:

  • Find the patterns between your skills, experiences, and what gives you energy
